dc.description Abstract and text in English en
dc.description.abstract The increasing prevalence of teenage pregnancies, persistent poverty, and low educational attainment has been associated with the non-use of contraceptives among teenage girls. This study explored the factors influencing the non-use of contraception among female learners in secondary schools in Sebokeng, Gauteng. Forty participants aged 15 to 19 years were selected through purposive and snowball sampling. Semistructured interviews were conducted, and thematic analysis identified barriers at the individual, interpersonal, structural, or social levels. In response to these findings, the study recommends implementing programmes to enhance contraceptive education, promote positive messages, address misconceptions, foster interdisciplinary collaboration, and improve access to resources friendly to teenagers. Additional recommendations include introducing cues to action, involving and educating parents and guardians, utilising the media to raise awareness, conducting ongoing research and evaluation, and developing supportive environments and policies. These interventions are intended to reduce teenage pregnancies and mitigate their social consequences. en
