dc.description Database systems en_US
dc.description.abstract NRDNIX is a distributed database management system (DDBMS) under implementation on a network of powerful personal computers. Several design aspects influence the query processing strategy followed in NRDNIX. These design aspects and their effect on the query processing strategy are discussed. Query processing mostly consists of validating and parsing queries into efficient, relational algebraic execution strategies. These execution strategies are broadcast across the network and executed locally at all the sites. The users specifies the data manipulation requests via a SQL-like query language, NQL (NRDNIX query language). The project is undertaken by the Study Group on Distributed Databases NRD/01(86) of the Department of Computer Science at the University of Stellenbosch. en_US
