dc.description.abstract Teachers are one of the many stakeholders in a school and plays a pivotal role. This research project aimed to investigate the role of participative leadership to empower teachers in public schools in Gauteng. The theoretical framework highlighted the ways that teachers can be empowered. The motivational theory and exchange-based theory served as the theoretical framework. A qualitative approach was used in this study. I conducted semi- structured interviews with 12 participants in the Johannesburg North District. Document analysis was also used to retrieve data. According to the research, the majority of schools recognize the critical role that participative leadership plays in empowering educators. The study revealed teachers can be empowered through professional development, regular workshops, registering on the teacher development system (DMS), through teacher collaboration and having regular meetings. Lastly, the study recommends the Triumphant Teacher Empowerment Model (TTEM) to empower teachers. en_US
