The IFLA Regional Office for Africa and the UNISA Library hosted the fourth annual IFLA Africa lecture delivered by Dr Magdi Khalifa, Head of the Knowledge Management Division at the African Union Commission (AUC). The event that was a gathering of library and information services (LIS) professionals was held at Unisa Muckleneuk campus on the theme “Knowledge Management and African Development in the 21st Century” on 28 November.

The International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA) hosted its second annual lecture at UNISA on 29 July 2009.  The public lecture seeks to address issues of African librarianship in the global context. The annual lecture is initiated by the UNISA library in 2008. The 2009 lecture was delivered by Prof Peter Underwood on the theme “African Librarianship in the 21st century”. Underwood is an expert on Librarianship based at the University of Cape Town. The lecture was opened with a drumming session, symbolising an ancient African way of communication.
African Librarianship in the 21st century series hosts annually a Public lecture in partnership with Unisa Library. LIS Scholars are invited to deliver the lecture on various  LIS topics
